FINAL PROJECT EVALUATION: MALABA GENDER ADVOCACY PROJECT (2025)

End-line evaluation of a project addressing high rates of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the vulnerable border town of Malaba. The project aimed to empower civil society actors and build community capacity for GBV prevention and response, tackling issues like sexual exploitation, child defilement, early and forced marriages, and domestic violence exacerbated by poverty and harmful cultural practices.

Project Goals & Objectives

To assess the project’s overall relevance, coherence, effectiveness, efficiency, sustainability, and impact on target populations, including survivors, women, youth, and marginalized groups.

Scope of Work

  • Reviewed project documents, including baseline data, quarterly progress reports, and activity logs.
  • Conducted interviews and focus group discussions with stakeholders, including survivors, community members, and project staff.
  • Analyzed qualitative and quantitative data to determine the project’s achievements against its objectives.
  • Identified best practices, challenges, and lessons learned.

Implementation Approach

  • Utilized the OECD DAC evaluation criteria (Relevance, Coherence, Effectiveness, Efficiency, Impact, Sustainability) as the framework for the evaluation.
  • Employed a participatory approach, ensuring the voices of key stakeholders, particularly vulnerable groups, were central to the evaluation process.
  • Triangulated data from various sources to ensure the validity and reliability of findings.

Outcomes & Impact

The evaluation report highlighted a more than 85% increase in community awareness of GBV reporting mechanisms. Testimonies from survivors indicated improved access to support services as a direct result of the project.

Challenges & Solutions

Gaining access to certain communities was initially challenging due to security concerns. This was mitigated by establishing strong relationships with local leaders and coordinating closely with community-based organizations
